CRAFTSMAN BATH

We selected hand-made matte-glazed wall tiles to continue the Arts and Crafts reference begun by the integrated cabinetry and millwork. The counter top tiles and and painted wallcovering impart a watery appearance that hints of Japanese influence. The sink’s distinctive matte glaze and a retro-style faucet add an aged look.

VICTORIAN BATH

This powder bath was formerly a closet. A new space plan connects it to a back entry and a play room. The challenge of having two doors, a tall window and a radiator in this modest space is solved in a way that fits Victorian quirkiness perfectly. The divided counter space is still ample and even provides a place to paint your toenails. Standing space in the compact sink area is preserved by a wall mount faucet and shallow cabinet below the sink (which also houses the radiator).

New finishes lightheartedly push the standard Victorian look. Marble wall tiles and trims are a much softer version of the expected white. The hexagonal floor tiles are a random mix of pale greens vs. white w/green rosettes.

This project received a first place award from ASID in 2005 for a residential bathroom and was published in the 12/2005 issue of Mpls.St.Paul magazine.

We teamed with Authentic Construction on space planning and construction of this project. See www.authconst.com.

INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH BATH

This powder bath showcased the use of exposed hardware and glass detailing used throughout this home. The floor is colored concrete. The warm wood and floor colors balance the hard materials for a soothing feeling.

TEEN BATH

The architect created a porthole from which to view Lake Minnetonka. We continued that thought with beachy color, fish tiles and hardware. The pale colors provide interesting contrast with the deep cabinet color used throughout the house.

This project also demonstrates how a children’s room can be ‘themed’ in a way that is inexpensively changed later on. The hardware and tile backsplash are simple to change out, and the major built-in items are age-neutral.
